On November 14, 2024, Baku Stock Exchange participated in the panel discussion on "Exchanges and climate action: financing the net zero transition" held in the Blue Zone of COP29 conference, which is managed by UNFCCC.
Organized by the UN Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative, the panel started with the opening remarks of Nan Li Collins, Director of Investment and Enterprise Division of the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Mr. Eric Usher, Head of the Finance Initiative of the UN Environment Programme and Mr. Jean-Paul Servais, Chairman of the Board of International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO).
The speakers of the panel Mr. Ruslan Khalilov, CEO of Baku Stock Exchange, Mr. Manyu Moravenov, CEO of Bulgaria Stock Exchange, Mrs. Ines Rocha, Regional Director for Europe of IFC, Mrs. Mardi Mcbrien, Chief of Strategic Affairs and Capacity Building of IFRS, Mrs. Rebeca Minguela, CEO of Clarity AI, Mrs. Mathilde Mesnard, Deputy Director, Climate and Green Finance Coordinator of OECD, Mrs. Sherry Madera, CEO of CDP and Mr. Ahmed Rushdy, Executive Director of Regional Center for Sustainable Finance of Financial Regulatory Authority, discussed the innovative financial instruments, climate disclosure efforts and the implementation of net zero commitments in capital markets, the latest trends and best practices in sustainable finance.
The panel moderator Mr. Anthony Miller, Chief Coordinator of the UN Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative (UN SSE) discussed with panelists the latest challenges to align capital markets with the global goal of net zero emissions and how the world's stock exchanges and regulators are incorporating climate considerations into their operations and influencing corporate behavior.
Baku Stock Exchange became a member of the UN Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative (UN SSE) Group in 2020. By joining the UNSSE, Baku Stock Exchange aims to cooperate with the Initiative Group and learn the experience of foreign exchanges on topics such as the organization of corporate governance accountability in accordance with international standards and its application in local capital markets, as well as the adaptation of listing rules to these principles.
