On November 15, 2024, an event on "Green Bonds in the Azerbaijan Capital Market" was held at Baku Stock Exchange within the framework of COP29.
The event, organized by Baku Stock Exchange and UN Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative, was opened by the speeches of Sean Kidney, CEO pf Climate Bonds Initiative, Anthony Miller, Chief Coordinator of UN Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative and Ruslan Khalilov, CEO of Baku Stock Exchange.
The moderator of the panel Mr. Ruslan Khalilov, CEO of Baku Stock Exchange altogether with the speakers Mr. Shahin Mahmudzade, Director of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, Mr. David Von Eiff, Director of CFA Institute, Mrs. Kris Nathanail, Director of Standards Development Division of International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), Sustainability Disclosure and Transparency Program Lead of IFC Ralitza Germanova, Mr. Vugar Namazov, CEO of Unicapital Investment Company, Mrs. Sevinj Abdullayeva, Group Finance Director of Nobel Energy company discussed the possibilities of applying initiatives on sustainable financing and green bonds in our country, ESG standards and reporting frameworks, cross-border ESG alignment, the role of investment companies in green bonds and the perspectives of potential issuers.
Taking place within COP29, this event served as a platform to discuss the promotion of green financial practices, which are essential to raise market awareness and develop sustainable investment opportunities and increase economic resilience in the face of climate challenges.
At the end, the panelists rang the "Ring the Bell for Climate", an initiative of the World Federation of Stock Exchanges (WFE). It should be noted that Baku Stock Exchange has been a member of the World Federation of Stock Exchanges (WFE) since January 2020. Compliance of Azerbaijan's capital market with international standards, strengthening of transparency and market trust is one of the main issues that Baku Stock Exchange attaches the importance.
