The main goal of the training, which runs from September 23 to 27, 2024, is to raise awareness about Sovereign Green Bonds, a financial instrument aimed at the sustainable development of the local capital market, in line with the Asian Development Bank's Development Banking mission.

Representatives from Baku Stock Exchange, "Association of Stock Market Participants of Azerbaijan" (AFBIA), and investment companies, which are members of the association, took part in the event organized by ADB.

The opening speech was delivered by Ms. Candice McDeigan, ADB's Country Director, who emphasized the importance of the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP29) that will be held in Azerbaijan. She noted that Azerbaijan has identified the development of the green economy, green finance, and green bonds as one of its strategic priorities.

Following her, Mr. Mehman Abbas, a consultant from ADB's Azerbaijan office, spoke, stating that this training program on Sovereign Green Bonds has been specifically designed for local capital market participants and that the primary goal is to contribute to the development of the green economy in Azerbaijan with the support of international experts.

It should be noted that the 5-day training program will cover all key topics related to the issuance of Sovereign Green Bonds.
