On March 13, 2025, a meeting dedicated to the development of the local capital market was held with the participation of Ms. Sunniya Durrani-Jamal, Country Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for Azerbaijan, and representatives of ADB's research mission.
The meeting was attended by Farid Akhundov, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Baku Stock Exchange (BSE); Ruslan Khalilov, Chairman of the Management Board of BSE; Oqtay Gasimov, Deputy CEO and CCO of BSE; as well as Murad Yahyayev, Executive Director of the Association of Capital Market Participants of Azerbaijan (ACMPA).
During the meeting, Farid Akhundov, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BSE, provided a detailed overview of the reforms implemented in recent years for the development of the capital market, the work carried out, and future plans. He specifically elaborated on measures taken to modernize market infrastructure, introduce new financial instruments, and attract local investors to the market.
Ruslan Khalilov, Chairman of the Management Board of BSE, highlighted steps taken to enhance market liquidity and improve trading mechanisms. He emphasized the importance of adopting international best practices and expanding cooperation with foreign investors to increase investment attractiveness.
Murad Yahyayev, Executive Director of ACMPA, spoke about the importance of improving financial literacy in the capital market and provided detailed information on the initiatives undertaken by the Association in this direction. He noted that training programs based on international experience, investor education, and various seminars would have a positive impact on market development.
Ms. Sunniya Durrani-Jamal, Country Director of ADB, stated that ADB is ready to support the development of the capital market within the framework of its cooperation with Azerbaijan. She also emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration to contribute to the integration of the local market into the global financial system in the future.
